IT’S HAPPENING – WE ARE IN PREMIER A IN 2019!
THE VAFA has announced the structure for the 2019 William Buck Premier A with the massive news that St Mary’s Salesian will be promoted to the top level after only two years in the competition.
We have been promoted on the back of successive Premierships in Premier B. Our cross town rivals West Brunswick Amateur Football Club have also been promoted and we look forward to our close encounters continuing.
We will be one of eight clubs to compete in Premier A in 2019, joining Melbourne University WFC, Marcellin, Kew, Fitzroy-ACU, SKOB Saints, Old Trinity and West Brunswick.
VAFA Womens Football and Engagement Manager, Shona MacInnes, said both sides deserved the opportunity to compete at the highest level after their success over the first two years.
“To be one of only eight clubs in the VAFA competing in Premier A is a huge credit to everyone involved at our club”, our senior coach Damian Sutherland said. “It is a tribute to how far our women’s players have come in such a short time – at the same time its a great challenge which we can’t wait to tackle. Premier is considered to be only one grade below VFLW, it’s a huge achievement.”
In 2018, the VAFA fielded 63 women’s teams from 47 clubs, and will expand even further in 2019. The VAFA now administers the largest senior womens football competition in the country.
