GOLD SAINTS IN 2011: $100 MEMBERSHIP

Footy season 2011 is already here, new rooms, under 19s going well and both senior sides on the track raring to go. The Gold Saints are up and running again this season as well and we are looking to increase our numbers substantially. By way of introduction for those of you that don’t know me, my name is Dale Andrews and I played with St Marys between 1986 and 2000. I am a past President of St Marys, 1998-99, and life member.

Gold Saints was first introduced by the club when I was still playing back in the 90s. It has traditionally offered past players and supporter’s opportunities throughout the year to have lunch, a drink and share time and memories together. It also provides a great boost and sense of history for the young men now carving out their own piece of SMS history. Your presence at the club, as little as once a year at a function with your old mates underlines to them that this club is worth being a part of. I have personally seen Gold Saints run well and be successful, and I have also seen it diminish at times into small groups of members and past players which can be disappointing.

I have taken responsibility for Gold Saints this year with the aim of increasing our numbers to in excess of 50 members. I have convinced the current committee that a reduction in membership fees is essential in order to get people to sign up. Gold Saints can’t just be about fees = money in the clubs coffers. My aim is to make it an affordable and attractive package to people who are essentially “Done with the Footy Club.” I personally have spent some time away from the club in recent years however I have been a Gold Saint and have kept in touch with some of the committee at different times. I also feel that I owe an ongoing debt to the Club, which gave me a great sense of purpose and pride both on and off the field over the journey.

The club has gone from strength to strength in the last few years with the fantastic surface of the ground, the merger and now the magnificent new clubrooms. There has never been a better time to show your support for the club that offered you an opportunity and become a Gold Saint member.

This year, membership of the Gold Saints brings a number of privileges and opportunities:

- Two luncheons at home games exclusively for Gold Saints members, or mix and match between one Gold Saints luncheon and the Presidents Luncheon including food and wine or beer.
- Your name displayed on the Gold Saints register, which is situated in the clubrooms.
- Many other opportunities to participate in a successful suburban club.
- Regular email updates/newsletter during the season.
