Peter Culley (4th in row)
1961 Round 1 |
It is with great sadness that we learn of the
passing of Peter Culley.
Alison Jacobsen, Peter's daughter advised us of
her father's passing and that a memorial service
will be held in his honor on 11th December 2011
between 2.00 pm and 4.00pm at the Peninsula School,
Mt Eliza.
Alison and the family invite members of St. Mary's
Salesian AFC who may have played football with Peter
and others that knew Peter over his years at St.
Mary's, to attend.
Alison would appreciate your advice if you are able
to attend the service, her contact m. 0414 400131,
other details can be obtained through the club.
Peter played 203 games with St. Mary's FC through
the late 1950's early 1960's.
He was a first class centerline player and was in
the winning B Grade Premiership Team that defeated
Blackburn United in 1960.
He was also a member of the 1962 A Grade Grand Final
team that was defeated by Trinity Presbyterians.
Peter always looked immaculately turned out as a
footballer, had strong views on the running of the
football club and was ably supported by his father
Ben, who for many seasons took on the thankless
role of goal umpire.
Peter's ability to accurately pass and direct the
ball to a fellow team mate earned him great respect
as a team player.
No doubt Peter's next great achievement was in 1978
when St. Mary's FC selected the "St. Mary's
Greatest Team " from past and present players
ranging over many seasons.
Peter was selected to hold down the Wing position
in the selected team.
After many years in Melbourne, Peter then moved
to the Port Douglas area, where eventually his life
came to an end.
Peter suffered a cancer of the brain and after a
short but brave battle, passed away on 12th October
2011. He is now in God's Care.
The St. Mary's Salesian AFC, Committee, Supporters,
Players and the St.Mary's Past Players Group extend
to Alison and the family our sincere condolences
on the passing of Peter.
