Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 Health Crisis, St. Mary’s Salesian Amateur Football Club (SMS AFC) immediately suspended all training sessions on March 16, 2020 under the direction of government social distancing provisions. Shortly after the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) also suspended the 2020 season indefinitely.
Two months later a phased resumption of community sport was announced, with the VAFA advising clubs they were able to return to training on Monday 1st June in Victoria.
SMS AFC are however very cognisant of the health risks it potentially exposes to our community. That’s why we are conservatively following the guidance provided by AFL Victoria and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Training will initially look a little different with a COVID-19 Safety Officer ensuring we remain within the provisions within our Return to Training Plan approved by Boroondara Council.
Still no word on whether a season will proceed but we are keenly watching and waiting.
