SENIOR AND SENIOR COACHES ANNOUNCED
In what is a massive coup for the St. Mary's
Salesian AFC, the President and committee are delighted
to announce the appointment of Erwin Leyden
as the Senior Coach and Jarryd Allen as Assistant
Coach for season 2012.
Both Erwin and Jarryd come to St. Mary's Salesian
AFC with impeccable playing and coaching records
at the highest levels. In 2010 Erwin was the Senior
A grade coach for the Old Melburnian FC, after being
a Senior Co-Coach in their 2009 Premiership year
in B grade. In 2001, Erwin also coached the same
team to a B Grade Preliminary Final before winning
the section a year later in 2002. He was also an
Assistant Coach in the A Grade Premiership year
of 1994, again for Old Melburnians.
Jarryd comes to the club as Assistant Coach having
only recently played at AFL level. Jarryd debuted
for St. Kilda in 2008 and was even a part of the
2008 Semi Final win against Collingwood. Unfortunately
in that very game Jarryd fractured his left hip
in a collision and despite enormous amounts of rehabilitation
the amount of cartilage lost forced him to make
the very difficult decision of hanging up his boots
at only the age of 21.
In his ever so short 4 senior game careers, Jarryd's
biggest moment other than his debut with the club
was being a part of the Saints Pre-Season Premiership
side in 2008.
We welcome both Erwin and Jarryd to the St. Mary's
Salesian AFC.
At this time we would like to thank Aaron Bailey
for the great job he has done with the Senior team
over the past few seasons. Aaron took the team to
the D3 Grand Final in 2009, which subsequently won
the club promotion to D2.
RESERVES COACHES REAPPOINTED
We are pleased to announce the reappointment
of Mark Purcell and Luke OShannessy
as joint Reserves coaches for Season 2012. Mark
and Luke have done a fantastic job this season and
are excited with the prospect of guiding the Reserves
to a successful year in 2012. Both are outstanding
club men and have earned the respect of all at the
club with their leadership, enthusiasm and passion.
NEW U19 COACH FOR 2012
The President and committee are delighted to
announce the appointment of Damian Sutherland
as Under 19s coach for season 2012.
Damian has a proven track record as a successful
coach at both senior and junior levels. He coached
the Salesian Reserves team in 1995 and 1996, taking
them to a Premiership and Preliminary Final. He
was the Senior Assistant Coach in the Senior Premiership
year of 1996.
Damian has coached for 6 years at Ashburton Redbacks
in which his team made finals every year and played
off in 4 Grand Finals with 1 Premiership. His most
recent experience was coaching the Colts Premier
side to a Grand Final in 2009. Damian brings a wealth
of experience to St Marys Salesian; he is
an excellent communicator and an extremely well
organised individual.
At this time we would like to thank Michael Learmonth
for the tremendous job he has done with the Under
19s over the past 2 years. Leo has set the
platform for the Under 19s to be successful
in the many years to come and we are indebted to
him for the establishment of this team.
